Best Gaming Monitor for Esports in 2026: What 1,354 Pro Players Actually Use

Forget marketing slides. The fastest way to pick an esports monitor is to look at what the professionals actually play on. We counted the monitors of 1,354 tracked pro players across CS2, VALORANT, Fortnite, Apex Legends and League of Legends, and ranked every model purely by real adoption. No sponsored placements, no review scores. Just the numbers, counted on 14 September 2026. The live monitor rankings update as rosters change.

The short version: what 1,354 pros tell us

• 74% play on ZOWIE, 1,004 of 1,354 pros. No other brand breaks 10%.
• 51% are on 360Hz or faster, but 240Hz stubbornly holds 35%.
• 88% play at 1080p, 96% of known panels are 24-25 inch, and 77% are TN.
• The average pro monitor costs $534, but the most popular 360Hz IPS pick costs just $300.
• CS2 and VALORANT run ZOWIE (92% and 80%). Fortnite, Apex and LoL look completely different.

The 10 most-used monitors in pro play

Just three models, the XL2566K, XL2546K and XL2566X+, cover more than half of all tracked pros. And seven of the top ten are ZOWIEs.

1. ZOWIE XL2566K (305 pros)

The default answer to "which esports monitor?" A 24.5" 360Hz TN panel with DyAc+ backlight strobing, listed at $549. It is the most-used monitor in both CS2 (177 pros) and VALORANT (102 pros), played on by names like rain, frozen, yay, Jinggg and Peterbot. If you buy one monitor blind, buy this one.

2. ZOWIE XL2546K (243 pros)

The 240Hz workhorse that refuses to retire. At $449 it is the rational pick for anyone who doesn't want to pay the 360Hz+ premium, and 174 CS2 pros agree with you, including Twistzz, plus Apex stars Genburten and Verhulst. Proof that 240Hz is still genuinely enough at the highest level.

3. ZOWIE XL2566X+ (159 pros)

The 400Hz middle ground at $649: noticeably faster than 360Hz without the $899 flagship price. VALORANT adopted it hardest, 86 pros (23% of the game), including zellsis and jawgemo, with dev1ce and magixx flying the flag in CS2.

4. ZOWIE XL2586X+ (108 pros)

The 600Hz endgame monitor ($899), and the user list says it all: donk, m0NESY, ZywOo, s1mple and NiKo. Five of the biggest names in Counter-Strike all play on the fastest panel money can buy. 89 of its 108 users are CS2 pros, which tells you exactly which game drives the refresh-rate race.

The rest of the top 10: the older XL2546 (75 pros) and XL2540K (32 pros, $330, the cheapest ZOWIE route to 240Hz) show how long these monitors stay on pro desks. The 540Hz XL2586X (33 pros, including XANTARES and aspas) is the previous flagship still going strong. The Alienware AW2523HF (31 pros) is the value story of this ranking: 360Hz IPS for $300, used by Khanada, Clix and Jamppi. Its older sibling, the AW2518H (27 pros), remains a Fortnite staple. And the INZONE M10S (26 pros) is the OLED outlier, a 27" 480Hz QD-OLED played on by TenZ, ImperialHal, Boaster and Alfajer.

Refresh rate: 360Hz is the new standard (but 240Hz refuses to die)

Add it up and 51% of pros play on 360Hz or faster. But the second-biggest group is still 240Hz at 35%, more than 360Hz and 400Hz individually. The remaining handful is spread across 500Hz (5 pros), 180Hz (6), 320Hz (5) and 144Hz (3, all in League of Legends), while 132 pros use models whose refresh rate isn't in our database yet, the largest chunk of those in League of Legends, where spec coverage is thinnest. The buying advice writes itself: 240Hz is the minimum, 360Hz is the sweet spot, and 540/600Hz is for CS2 grinders chasing the last millisecond.

What the pros use per game

Monitor taste is not the same everywhere. CS2 and VALORANT live in the future; Fortnite and League of Legends happily live in the past.

CS2: the 600Hz frontier

Coverage: 666 of 698 pros (95%). The XL2566K (177, 27%) and XL2546K (174, 26%) are neck-and-neck at the top, but the story is third place: the 600Hz XL2586X+ with 89 pros (13%), played on by donk, m0NESY, ZywOo, s1mple and NiKo. 55% of CS2 pros are on 360Hz+, and 92% play on ZOWIE, the most one-sided brand split in any game. VALORANT: first to move to 400Hz

Coverage: 382 of 412 pros (93%). The XL2566K leads with 102 pros (27%), but the XL2566X+ is right behind at 86 (23%), the highest 400Hz adoption of any title. The XL2546K (53, 14%) and the 600Hz XL2586X+ (18, including Demon1, zekken and johnqt) follow. At 64% on 360Hz+, VALORANT is the fastest game on average, ahead of CS2. Fortnite: 240Hz still rules

Coverage: 165 of 170 pros (97%). The most-used monitor is the older 240Hz Alienware AW2518H (23 pros, 14%), followed by the XL2566K (16) and the previous-gen XL2546 (13). 47% of Fortnite pros still play on 240Hz, only 28% are on 360Hz+, and ZOWIE manages just 33%. Apex Legends: the OLED exception

Coverage: 50 of 50 pros (100%). Apex is the only game where an OLED is the #1 monitor: the 27" 480Hz INZONE M10S with 14 pros (28%), including ImperialHal. The XL2546K (8) and XL2566K (6) follow. 46% are on 360Hz+, ZOWIE takes only 34%. See the live Apex Legends gear rankings.

League of Legends: refresh rate barely matters

Coverage: 91 of 130 pros (70%), the thinnest data of any game, so read these numbers as indicative. The most-used model is the LG 25GR75FG (24 pros, 26%), followed by the HP OMEN X25F (8) and the 180Hz MSI MAG 255XFV (6). Three models tie at 5 pros each: the 400Hz XL2566X+, the 240Hz HP OMEN 24.5" ($249) and the 320Hz AOC 25G4S/P. Among monitors with known specs, 240Hz is by far the most common (20 of 53) and only 15% reach 360Hz+. When even 180Hz panels show up in pro setups, refresh rate clearly isn't what wins games here. Size, panel and resolution: the pro formula

• 24.5" (63%) and 24.1" (23%), 96% of monitors with known specs are 24-25 inch. Only 4% of pros play on 27", and nobody plays bigger.
• TN panels: 77%. Motion clarity beats color accuracy in pro play. IPS (6%) and Fast IPS (4%) are growing alternatives; OLED sits at ~2%.
• 1080p: 88%. Just 3% play at 1440p, almost all of them OLED adopters. Nobody in our database plays 4K.
• 63% use DyAc or DyAc+ backlight strobing, ZOWIE's motion-clarity signature.

The formula hasn't changed in years: a fast, small, low-resolution TN panel tuned for motion clarity, because that is what delivers the highest frame rates and the most consistent image. Consistency is everything when your job is aiming.

• 240Hz on a budget → ZOWIE XL2546K ($449), or the XL2540K ($330) for even less.
